The Second Workshop Series – 2024 “Progressive Perspectives on the English Language Education”
From October 28 to October 29, 2024, the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) collaborated with College of Teacher Education at Nueva Vizcaya State University (Philippines) to organize the second workshop series on "Progressive Perspectives on English Language Education", held in a hybrid format.
This series of workshops, hosted by TDTU’s Faculty of Foreign Languages, aimed at providing knowledge and research insights on Artificial Intelligence (A.I). These workshops sought to help students grasp technology trends and the potential of A.I to enhance language skills. Through these, students learned how to integrate A.I and technologies into their language-learning process, from using language-learning apps to developing personalized study methods.
The workshop series consisted of three sessions, featuring speakers from Vietnam and the Philippines. The first workshop took place at 1:00 PM on October 28, 2024, at Auditorium 10F (TDTU) and was presented by Ms. Tran Thi Mai Thi, lecturer from TDTU’s Faculty of Foreign Languages. Her talk, titled "A.I-assisted Learning for English Majors," focused on students' experiences and responses to A.I-assisted tools for language learning.
The two subsequent workshops were held at 8:30 AM and 1:30 PM on October 29, 2024, also at Auditorium 10F. Ms. Dao Xuan Phuong Trang, lecturer from Ho Chi Minh City University of Education (HCMUE), presented on "A.I-driven Enhancement of Teaching Materials and Assessment," sharing applications of A.I in supporting language learning, teaching, and assessment. Finally, Dr. William D. Magday, Jr. from Nueva Vizcaya State University (Philippines) presented on “A.I-powered Assistants: Tools for Academic Writing,” discussing how A.I tools aid academic writing skills in English.
The workshop series concluded successfully, with nearly 200 students, lecturers, and faculty members from TDTU’s Faculty of Foreign Languages and College of Teacher Education at Nueva Vizcaya State University in attendance. Over 100 students participated in person, and nearly a hundred joined online.
