The Third International Workshop Series on “Progressive Perspectives on English Language Education” 2026

Following the success of its 2023 and 2024 editions, the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) successfully hosted the 3rd workshop series on “Progressive Perspectives on English Language Education”.
Held from April 7 to April 14, 2026, the series was a collaborative initiative between TDTU, the College of Teacher Education at Nueva Vizcaya State University (Philippines), and an adjunct professor from Suranaree University of Technology (Thailand). The program adopted a hybrid format, combining in-person sessions with virtual participation.
Unlike previous years, this workshop series has evolved from an internal activity into a premier meeting point for regional academic networks. At Hall 10F, nearly 400 Vietnamese students were joined by an in-person delegation of international faculty and students from NVSU (Philippines).
The program's reach extended powerfully across digital platforms, with the virtual participation of nearly 200 representatives from Nueva Vizcaya State University (Philippines), Silpakorn University (Thailand), Kasetsart University (Thailand), and Suranaree University of Technology (Thailand). By gathering representatives from three Southeast Asian nations, the series created a multicultural academic environment, offering opportunities for thought exchange and the sharing of practical research experiences for all attendees.
The workshop series was methodically designed with three thematic sessions led by prestigious speakers from Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines. The first workshop, taking place at 13:30 on April 7, 2026, featured a presentation by Dr. Vu Cong Danh, Head of the Division of Linguistics, Culture, and Literature, TDTU, with the topic “Analyzing questionnaire data using SPSS.” The session focused on the process of handling survey data, testing reliability, and practicing key statistical analyses such as T-Tests and One-way ANOVA - the "backbone" skills of scientific research.
On the morning of April 14, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Issra Pramoolsook (Suranaree University of Technology, Thailand) presented the session “Editing in Academic Writing.” He shared core principles and techniques for editing academic texts - a pivotal step that is often overlooked in the international publication process.
Closing the event series on the same afternoon, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jonathan P. Pasion (Nueva Vizcaya State University, Philippines) provided profound insights into “Intercultural Communication in Academic Settings.” This is an essential skill to help faculty and students communicate effectively and confidently in today's multicultural academic environments.
Moving beyond theory, lively group interaction activities took place between international and TDTU students. The seamless connection between in-person and online formats allowed participants to not only master knowledge but also enhance their understanding and appreciation of the cultural beauty of neighboring countries.
The academic atmosphere was further strengthened by unique musical performances from the Philippine student delegation. The dances and songs - blending traditional beauty with modern flair - left a deep impression and tightened the bonds of friendship between the youth of both nations.
In his closing remarks, Dr. William D. Magday Jr., representing the host organizers, emphasized: “The workshop does not stop at improving academic quality; it is also an important cultural bridge, opening up borderless learning exchange opportunities for university students across the Southeast Asian region.”
The event successfully fulfilled its goal of equipping attendees with core research skills: from data processing and international standard editing to intercultural communication. Simultaneously, it marked a significant step in consolidating the long-term strategic cooperative relationships between TDTU and its international partners.
